Representative Doris Matsui Reintroduces Bone Marrow Failure Disease Research and Treatment Act

On February 10, 2011  Representative Doris Matsui (D-CA) reintroduced the Bone Marrow Failure Disease Research and Treatment Act.  The bill, which is very similar to the legislation introduced by Representative Matsui in 2009, has been designated H.R. 640 in the 112th Congress (2011-2012).

H.R. 640 increases the Federal Government’s commitment to researching and treating aplastic anemia, MDS, PNH, and other acquired bone marrow failure diseases.  On February 26, 2009, Representative Doris O. Matsui (D-CA) formally introduced this legislation that will bring together the resources of several Federal Agencies to advance our understanding of and treatments for Aplastic Anemia, Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and PNH. We need your support NOW! Call or write your Congress-Person and get their support for this legislation. Ask them to Co-Sponsor this bill NOW and to help get their colleagues to join them.

As Reported by Special Assistant

Admiral E.R. Zumwalt, Jr.

“It can, in my judgment, be concluded, with a very high degree of confidence, that it is at least as likely as not that the following are caused in humans by exposure to TCDD:

1.      non—Hodgkin’ s lymphoma

2.      chloracne and other skin disorders,

3.      lip cancer,

4.      bone cancer,

5.      soft tissue sarcoma

6.      birth defects

7.      skin cancer,

8.      lung cancer,

9.      porphyria cutanea tarda

10.   and other liver disorders

11.   Hodgkin’s disease

12. hematopoietic diseases

13. multiple myeloma

14. neurological defects

15. and auto—immune diseases and disorders.

In addition, I am most comfortable in concluding that it is at least as likely as not that

16. liver cancer

17. nasal/pharyngeal/esophageal cancers

18. leukemia

19. malignant melanoma

20. kidney cancer

21. testicular cancer

22. pancreatic cancer

23. stomach cancer

24. prostate cancer

25. colon cancer

26. brain cancer

27. psycho-social effects

28. and gastrointestinal disease
